How to design, maintain and cook in a toxic free, green kitchen environment has become more important for many families who are concerned with natural, healthy living.
However, there’s no other room in the home that is fraught with so many hidden areas of toxicity and health-related concerns as in the typical kitchen.
The kitchen has long been considered the ‘heart of the home’, but today’s kitchens tend to be less friendly than ever before, at least to the health of its users. There are more toxic products, air pollutants, and hazardous materials used in this area of the home, than in any other. And surprisingly, this is the area where typical families perform their most important household exercise…preparing food!
While modern conveniences have made life much easier for contemporary home dwellers, they have also introduced a whole new set of problems into living spaces. Appliances, cookware, food service items, plastic packaging products, and conventional cleaners, are just some of the products that need to be reconsidered, in order to enjoy a healthier kitchen. Cabinets, kitchen furniture, countertops and flooring also often contribute to poor indoor air quality.
This is not to mention the problems with foods, food preservation, eating a healthy diet and drinking clean, pure drinking water. Wow! The list could go on, when it comes to dealing with important kitchen issues that affect everyone from infancy to old age.
